A Pivotal Moment for Energy Retail — and a Rare Opportunity

We're delighted to welcome Simon Orosz as ENSEK's new Chief Revenue Officer. Simon joins us from IQGeo, where he was Head of Revenue for EMEA, and brings over two decades of experience building and scaling sales organizations in complex, regulated markets across energy, enterprise software, and SaaS.

As ENSEK transitions to a global Energy Orchestration Platform, Simon's appointment signals our commitment to executing at scale across international markets. In this Q&A, he shares what drew him to the role, how he's approaching parallel market expansion across key regions, and how he sees ENSEK enabling suppliers to orchestrate energy for lives connected, globally.

What drew you to the Chief Revenue Officer role at ENSEK, and what made this the right moment to join?

ENSEK is a rare combination of opportunity, vision, and capability that aligns really well with my career aspirations at what is a pivotal moment in energy.

First, there is a genuine market opening for a credible, independent billing and customer management platform. The energy retail sector is undergoing fundamental transformation, and suppliers need modern technology that can keep pace with regulatory change, consumer expectations, and the acceleration of the energy transition. Legacy systems like Oracle CCB and SAP ISU are no longer fit for purpose — stale monoliths that lack any agility and are super expensive to maintain. ENSEK has positioned itself really well to address this gap with a platform that is robust, flexible, and designed for the future. That market opportunity attracted me.

Second, the company vision is genuinely compelling. ENSEK is not just building software; we're enabling the digital energy transition. That mission resonates deeply with me.

Third, the management team is exceptionally strong, the best I've worked with. I have real confidence in the strategic thinking, visionary leadership, and execution capability around the table. That gives me reassurance that if anyone can bring this vision to life, this team can.

Fourth, the investment Centrica is committing to ENSEK signals real confidence in the company's future. That backing removes traditional barriers that slow GTM execution and market entry.

Finally, the role itself really excites me. I love building stuff. The challenge of scaling a business like ENSEK at this pivot moment is the kind of opportunity that comes around rarely. I wasn't looking to move, but this one was too compelling to pass up.

As CRO, what does your day-to-day look like, and how does it connect to accelerating the digital energy transition?

Operationally, I'm building and executing an international expansion programme across key markets in Asia, North America, and Europe.

The philosophy underpinning our international strategy is different from traditional approaches. Rather than waiting for full product internationalisation before entering new markets, we're moving in parallel across all three regions. We're building market demand, establishing partner ecosystems, and proving our value proposition simultaneously, while platform localisation matures alongside based on validated market demand. This is much smarter than guessing what each market needs before we engage.

Each region has a tailored go-to-market approach — some led by direct sales, others through strategic partnerships — but the underlying principle is the same: prove value early, build credible relationships, and scale what works.

With marketing, we're developing the narrative and market adaptation packs that build buyer confidence early. We're standing up a solution consulting organisation tasked with driving sticky customer engagements underpinned by relevant, market-driven customer journeys.

But here's the connection to the broader mission: every customer we win, every market we enter, every supplier that migrates to our platform represents real progress towards the digital energy transition at scale. We're not just selling software in isolated markets. We're building a repeatable, scalable capability that enables suppliers globally to operate more effectively, respond faster to regulatory change, and invest more confidently in their own innovation.

The energy transition is accelerating internationally — smart meters, EVs, flexible demand, home batteries are happening everywhere simultaneously. What we learn from market entry in one region directly informs how we move in others. That knowledge-sharing and operational learning across markets is how we truly accelerate impact on the transition.

The retail energy market is under considerable pressure. How do you see suppliers navigating this, and where does ENSEK fit?

The retail energy sector is navigating a genuinely complex environment. Regulatory change is accelerating — price caps, consumer protections, environmental obligations, and operational standards are all evolving rapidly. Simultaneously, consumer expectations are rising: customers want seamless digital experiences, transparent pricing, and quick resolution. And underlying all of this is the energy transition itself, which is reshaping the fundamentals of how energy is generated, stored, and consumed.

Smart suppliers are realizing that technology is no longer an optional differentiator. It's a strategic necessity. They need platforms that can adapt quickly to regulatory change without months of development. They need systems that can handle complexity, multiple pricing models, flexible tariffs, time-of-use products, demand response. And they need customer management systems that can deliver the digital experience their customers expect.

That is where ENSEK fits. Our billing and customer management platform is purpose-built for the modern energy market. It gives suppliers the agility they need to respond to change, the capability to offer sophisticated products, and the customer experience infrastructure that consumers increasingly demand. We're not a legacy system. We're built for the future, and that matters to suppliers who need to move quickly.

What do you think are the biggest commercial challenges for suppliers modernizing their technology?

There are several, and they're interconnected.

First, legacy infrastructure. Many suppliers are operating core systems that are decades old. Replacing these systems is a big technical, operational, and financial commitment. Suppliers need to migrate customers and data without disruption, which creates real complexity.

Second, integration. Energy suppliers rarely operate in isolation. They depend on distributor systems, regulatory platforms, payment processors, smart meter networks, and numerous other systems. Any new technology solution has to integrate seamlessly, or it creates more friction, not less. That integration challenge is often underestimated by technology vendors.

Third, regulatory risk. Energy is heavily regulated, and suppliers need to be confident that any new system will remain compliant as rules evolve. The cost of getting this wrong is substantial, so suppliers are rightfully cautious about selecting partners.

Fourth, the talent challenge. Building and maintaining complex technology requires world-class engineering. Competing for that talent is difficult, which is why many suppliers are increasingly looking to partners who can provide both technology and expertise.

ENSEK addresses each of these challenges. We have deep experience integrating with the major systems suppliers depend on. Our platform is built with regulatory compliance baked in and actively maintained as rules change. And we bring the engineering expertise and support that suppliers need, they don't have to build this themselves. That value proposition is resonating with the customers we're engaging.

How does the energy transition change the commercial conversation between technology providers and energy suppliers?

It fundamentally changes it. For decades, energy retail has been relatively stable. Customers had a meter, received a bill, and that was the core interaction. Technology providers sold billing systems and customer management platforms designed for that model.

The energy transition upends that simplicity. Today, suppliers need to manage intelligent systems: smart meters that send half-hourly reads, electric vehicles that charge during off-peak hours, home batteries that store energy, heat pumps that consume electricity differently, and flexible demand that responds to grid conditions. Suppliers need to offer tariffs that reflect this complexity — time-of-use pricing, demand response incentives, bundled products. And they need customer engagement platforms that help people understand and optimise their energy use.

This is no longer just a billing conversation. It's a conversation about enabling suppliers to participate in the energy transition, to be partners in decarbonisation, to capture the commercial value of flexibility, and to offer customers products that are sustainable and economically attractive.

Technology partners who understand this shift — who can provide not just billing but the flexibility, the data insights, and the customer experience infrastructure that modern energy requires — are the ones who will grow with suppliers through the transition. That is the conversation we're having with customers, and it's one of genuine mutual interest.

What does success look like for you in the first year at ENSEK, and what kind of organisation do you want ENSEK to be seen as in the market?

Success in year one is twofold.

First, I want to establish that ENSEK is no longer just a UK billing provider. We are a global orchestration platform. That means securing validated partnerships and proof-of-concept readiness across all three target markets, with early customer wins and a credible partner channel established in key regions. Second, I want to prove the two-play model works: that flexibility monetisation is a genuine, repeatable market wedge that builds buyer confidence and positions us for the deeper platform anchor sale.

If I achieve that, market entry validated, partnerships credible, the narrative shifted, and the model de-risked, then we unlock the investment case that leads to significant growth and scale. Year One is about proving this is real, executable, and repeatable before we scale aggressively in the years that follow.

I also want to establish the market narrative. Today, there's still awareness-building to do. Many suppliers have not yet evaluated us alongside traditional alternatives. I want ENSEK to be top-of-mind for anyone in energy retail evaluating modern technology.

Longer-term, I want ENSEK to be recognized as the trusted partner for energy transition. Not just a billing system, but the platform that enables suppliers to operate effectively in a fundamentally new energy system. The company that understands the urgency of the transition, the complexity it creates, and the commercial opportunity it represents. The partner that doesn't just sell software, but invests in the success of customers who are moving the energy system toward sustainability.

I want ENSEK to be a company that attracts the best talent because the mission is compelling, the customers are important, and the work is genuinely impactful. That is the organisation I want to build with.

What's one thing about ENSEK that has surprised you, or that you wish more people in the industry knew?

What I wish more people in the industry realised is that ENSEK is not a startup trying to disrupt energy. We are a serious, credible technology provider with deep domain expertise, having successfully delivered our platform at one of the largest and most complex energy providers in the world. That is no simple undertaking.

We're also in the process of restructuring our business and technology platform in readiness for a major international launch programme. We're going about our business the right way, creating the foundations for accelerated growth and repeatability at scale. To be honest, I don't think anyone sees us coming, which I quite like. But I can assure you we are.

The other thing is the quality of the team. I've worked across energy for many years, and the combination of technical excellence, energy domain expertise, and commercial orientation we have at ENSEK is really impressive. The people here understand the market, and we're building layers of top talent across this business without compromise. Because at the end of the day, it's all about the people.

What excites you most about ENSEK's mission, and what do you hope to achieve beyond year one?

What excites me most is the scale of what's possible. I've spent twenty years in enterprise sales and revenue leadership across energy, fintech, and SaaS, and I've rarely seen a combination as compelling as what ENSEK offers: a market in genuine transition, a technology platform that's genuinely fit for purpose, and a team with the depth to execute at scale.

If we execute well, ENSEK won't just be another software vendor. We'll be the platform that enables a fundamental shift in how energy systems operate globally. We'll help suppliers move from managing commodities to orchestrating energy in service of something larger: a sustainable energy future. That's compelling work. That's why I'm here.
